  1. Hey there spanky – did you know that after Bunuel and Dali finished that, it impressed some French production company enough to offer the pair $ to make a feature film together. Just as they were beginning production, Dali bailed. Bunuel carried on with full visionary control, so we get scorpions, starving bandits, a cow in a bed, cries of sexual pleasure, and Jesus as we’ve never seen him. Yeeeaaaah!

  2. I remember reading somewhere that the first showing — the premiere in Paris of this film incited riots … a woman was trampled by a horse in the street. I will re-research this.

  3. It looks like it was L’Age d’Or, not Un Chien Anadalou, that incited a riot in Paris. It was then promptly banned and sealed away. L’Age d’Or is also the feature film Dali bailed on. I can see this film still inciting something … if not riots, definitely censorship.

  4. the age of gold?

  5. Yep, spot on, The Age of Gold, but I don’t know if it was the bed-ridden cow or the orgy jesus that caused the uproar. The right-wingers got all whingey.

“Either you are made like the rest of civilized humanity, or you are proud and whole like Bunuel. And if you are whole and proud, then you are an anarchist, and throw bombs.”
